Cairns Airport – Domestic and International
The Cairns Airport is located 7kms from Cairns CBD. After arriving you can get your holiday started with these transport options:

  • Car hire
  • Taxi
  • Accredited door-to-door airport shuttle service to hotels, city centre and the northern beaches including Palm Cove, Port Douglas, Cape Tribulation and south to Mission Beach.

On the road

  • Hire a car and road trip up the coast to Cairns.
  • Jump on a coach to the Cairns Reef Street Terminal.


  • Catch the Sunlander – This high-speed train can deliver you from Brisbane to Cairns.

Once you’re in Tropical North Queensland, you can choose your own way to get around! 

Road trip
Tropical North Queensland includes a lot of hot places to visit like Cape Tribulation, Port Douglas and Mission Beach. If you are planning to see as much as possible in your own time, car hire is the way to go.

If you are planning something more remote like a road trip to Cape York make sure you hire a four-wheel-drive or other appropriate transport.


  • Sun Bus can get you around the local Cairns area. Private bus companies can get you further afield.

This is a historic precinct set in the old 'Cardwell Telegraph and Post Office' (now known as the Bush Telegraph) which was built in 1870 and is one of the oldest buildings in North Queensland.
