Great Walks

We’re pretty proud of the amazing array of walking trails packed into our great state. Out of all the remarkable terrain, there are ten standout walks that will take you far from the typical tourist tracks and deep into our magnificent National Parks; we call these the Great Walks (because that’s exactly what they are!)

  • Carnarvon – Take this impressive trail through a remote landscape of towering sandstone cliffs, sweeping tablelands and shaded side-gorges.
  • Conondale Range – This awe-inspiring trail includes ancient rainforest, cascading waterfalls, crystal clear creeks, and expansive views. Choose from half-day walks through to the full four-day 56km circuit trail.
  • Cooloola Wilderness Trail – This walk showcases the very best of the area’s spectacular natural attractions. At 102km long, the extensive track will have you wandering along the white sandy beaches north of Noosa and through sand dunes, rainforest and dry coastal woodland.
  • Fraser Island – Explore the world's largest sand island on foot and discover ever-changing landscapes, stunning scenery and fascinating natural and cultural heritage. While the entire 90km Great Walk takes 6 to 8 days to complete, there are also short easy walks on offer.
  • Gold Coast Hinterland – Wind your way for 54 kilometres, along the rim of the ancient Tweed Volcano and over the rainforest-clad hills and steep escarpments of Lamington and Springbrook national parks.
  • Mackay Highlands – Cool and cloudy rainforest, towering trees, dense palm groves, and dramatic cliffs, peaks and spires all feature along this 56km trail.
  • Ngaro Sea Trail – This trail is nothing short of magical, with a unique blend of seaways and picturesque walks across Whitsunday, South Molle and Hook islands. Walk through open forests, climb rugged peaks and stroll along winding pathways.
  • Sunshine Coast Hinterland – Meander through a warm subtropical rainforest, a tall open eucalypt forest and past picturesque waterfalls in secluded areas of the Blackall Range. This 58km trail is a four-day walk with bush campsites – or you can break it into shorter sections within the Great Walk route.
  • Wet Tropics – Combining the Juwun and Jambal walks with the Wallaman Falls, this trail takes you on a discovery of dramatic waterfalls, plunging gorges, towering cliffs and rugged countryside within the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area.
  • Whitsunday – Whether you ride, run or walk this circuit through Conway National Park, be sure to keep your eyes peeled for the scampering rock wallabies and fluorescent blue Ulysses butterflies that take refuge in this tropical sanctuary.
